Let your kids nap on the hour ride down there. Or stop by after a beach excursion to let them clean off the sand. This sprayground in Monmouth county is one of the nicest I've been to. Near the sprayground is a playground for children of all abilities and all around are wide open fields.
Put into your GPS: 209 Route 537 East; Colts Neck, NJ
hours: MFSAT/SUN: 10 am to dusk; TWTH: 11am to dusk (1/2 hr before dusk)
restrooms: second white building to the left as you exit.
Price: FREE!
The water is chlorinated and infants/toddlers must wear swim diapers. There are seating areas/tables around the sprayground so your stuff can stay dry and you can take a break. Unlike a pool setting you don't have to stay on guard all the time. It's not so large that you would lose sight of your child. The whole area is fenced in so no need to worry about losing your little wanderer, either. This is great for a HOT day when you don't have a mommy friend to join you at the pool.
There is a cute water table that has endlessly entertaining gadgets on it. Also, a big water bucket that tips over when it gets full. They had something similar to this at Land of Make Believe. Be sure to wear your bathing suit, too, because you may very well get wet!
